A Wild Day Out at The British Wildlife Centre
We had a fantastic and memorable visit to The British Wildlife Centre this week! Inspired by our recent work on The Gruffalo, the children arrived full of excitement and curiosity—ready to spot some of the real-life animals that reminded them of the beloved story.
From the moment we arrived, there was so much to see and learn. The children were thrilled to learn more about the sly Fox and had lots of fun guessing which of the Centre’s magnificent owls could have been the one from the tale. We spotted a little Mouse scurrying through the wheat, and some eagle-eyed explorers even managed to find the Snake, cleverly camouflaged in the grass!
One of the highlights of the day was watching the animals being fed. The children were fascinated to discover which creatures were herbivores, carnivores, or omnivores—linking perfectly to our recent science topics. It was a hands-on, real-world experience that sparked lots of thoughtful discussion.
A special moment for many was seeing a hedgehog up close, and meeting Yoda the owl was a truly magical experience. His calm presence and piercing eyes left a lasting impression.
